Mob violence is an extreme manifestation of group behavior and anonymity. It is a scenario where a collective group engages in violent acts. Typically, participants in mob violence would not partake in such behavior on their own, but the deindividuation effect within the group can incite actions that align with the aggressive behavior of the mob.

Historically, events of mob violence have been sparked by a wide range of motives, but they often share common triggers such as heightened emotions, provocation, and deindividuation through anonymity. Not only social psychologists but also law enforcement and policymakers study mob violence to understand its roots and develop prevention and intervention strategies.
